RORY BLOCK is a traditionalist and an innovator at the same time, she wields a fiery and haunting guitar and vocal style redefining boundaries in blues and folk. The New York Times declared: “Her playing is perfect, her singing otherworldly as she wrestles with ghosts, shadows and legends.”. With 36 albums , 7 blues Music Awards and countless world tours her fabled odyssey finds her at the height of her talent.
She is touring her new album out Oct 7, “Aint Nobody Worried “ the 3rd volume of her “Power Women of the Blues Series,” recorded and mixed by Rob Davis at Kentucky Studios, and mastered by Toby Mountain of Northeastern Digital. Rory sang all the vocals, played all the guitar parts, slide, bass and percussion.
Rory learned her 1st lessons in blues gospel from the Rev Gary Davis. She swapped stories and licks with Son House, Robert Johnson’s mentor (“He kept asking, ‘Where did she learn to play like this?). She left her Jersey home at 15 with her guitar and a few friends – heading for California on a trip marked by numerous detours………
